Recently in the news, National Public Radio reported that the Federal Reserve has proposed exempting some banks from new mortgage rules. The latest set of rules from the government states that a bank must have at least 5% of its own money in mortgage securities. The exemptions proposed by the Fed however allow some banks to opt out of the rule if a borrower has a 20% down payment.
